Background and History

 

2002:
On 28.3.2002, METRO Cash & Carry opened its first self-service wholesale center in Ho Chi Minh City, the business metropolis of Vietnam. On 5.12.2002, also in Ho Chi Minh City, the second cash & carry wholesale center of Vietnam started its operations.
METRO Cash & Carry was the first company introduced the cash & carry wholesale model in Vietnam. Together with its business development, METRO Cash & Carry has made big transformation in the country’s production and distribution building up modern trade infrastructures in Vietnam.

2003:
The first METRO Cash & Carry wholesale center for Hanoi Capital was opened on 31.7.2003. This was also the first self-service wholesale center for the Vietnam’s North Region.
We started our investment in the far away regions.

2004:
On 22.12.2004, the first METRO Cash & Carry wholesale center of the Mekong Delta Region opened in Can Tho. Can Tho is 200 Km from Ho Chi Minh City and is seen as the Capital of Mekong Delta Region. Mekong Delta Region has 10 million of farmers and fishermen who contribute 80% of the country’s economy.
METRO Cash & Carry, later, has been involving efforts to promote the “Mekong Delta” brand internationally, and create access to new markets for businesses in the area.

2005:
Professional customers in Hai Phong (5.10.2005) and Danang (13.12.2005), two biggest port cities of Vietnam, welcomed METRO Cash & Carry wholesale centers.
More new stores in Ho Chi Minh City and in Hanoi.

2006:
We opened the 3rd cash & carry wholesale center for Ho Chi Minh City (14.12.2006).

2007:
The second METRO Cash & Carry center for Hanoi Capital was opened on 19.9.2007. This was also the 10th center for Vietnam. METRO Cash & Carry successfully accomplished its first investment phase.

Now we focus on consolidating our markets and expanding to other Provinces

2009
On 16.1.2009, METRO Cash & Carry started building its cash & carry wholesale center in Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai Province. The company laid foundation for its investment in the South-East Vietnam. On 09.7.2009, METRO Cash & Carry Bien Hoa open
On 11.9.2009, METRO Cash & Carry signed an Investment Agreement with An Giang Province to build a METRO's Cash & Carry Wholesale Center in Long Xuyen City. This will be the second METRO's Cash & Carry Wholesale Center in the Mekong River Delta.

2010
On 20.1.2010, METRO Cash & Carry announced METRO Cash & Carry Wholesale Center in Quy Nhon City - Binh Dinh Province in the Central Coast of Vietnam.
On 31.3.2010, METRO Cash & Carry broke ground of the Wholesale Center METRO Cash & Carry Long Xuyen in Long Xuyen City - An Giang Province in the Mekong River Delta.
On 7.5.2010, METRO Cash & Carry broke ground of the Wholesale Center METRO Cash & Carry Quy Nhon in Quy Nhon City - Binh Dinh Province in the Vietnam's Central Coast Region.
